This flow is carefully controlled through a combination of applied pressure and lubrication, either on the die or directly on the metal blank.
Material Flow Control

If it flows too slowly due to excessive pressure, the material may thin excessively and crack.
Achieving a high-quality drawn part is a matter of balancing the two risks: wrinkling vs. breaking. Proper control ensures the material stretches uniformly without compromising structural integrity.
Practical Guidelines
A common starting point for deep drawing is using a die radius of approximately 3 times the metal thickness.
If cracks appear during forming, it often indicates the tool was machined metal-safe—meaning there's room to increase the die radius to reduce stress on the part.
Certain part specifications, such as tight radii under a flange, may allow forming in a single draw, rather than requiring multiple draws to gradually achieve the final shape.
